Naive Art and I - How it all began

After a successful manager career I founded 1976 my “NÜRNBERGER GALERIE für Petit-Points, Naive und Volkskunst” (Naiv and Folk Art). In the very heart of the Nuremberg Old Town, appr. 50 steps beneath of the imposing imperial castle, some 20 steps from the “Fembohaus” (City Museum) and around 100 steps from Albrecht Dürer House Museum or from Town Hall or from the St. Sebald Church. Our premises are in a building protected as a monument, rebuild 1954 on the same plot where used to stand the home of the famous Nuremberg painter and goldsmith Michael Wolgemuth. A memorial plaque on the house front informs that Albrecht Dürer learned his profession in Wolgemuth’s workshop. Before the bombs and fire destruction of that house on January 02, 1945, therein was a medieval celeb’s guesthouse (beer cellar) named “Fox Hole” with a cassette wooden ceiling of art historic significance and consequently it has been documented with great precision in Nuremberg’s Germanic National Museum. That unique location and history inspired us to a serious activity with exquisite art works.

Our business approach

Our business model differs from the common gallery activity. We organized just few shows. Instead, we purchased directly from the artist against immediate payment, no questions asked and so we have build in more than four decades successful business relationships. We create and choose an individual and unique frame for each painting. All art works are presented with remarkably visible “all inclusive” final price. No need to check the price lists or to ask verbally. Because the price belongs to the substantial decision information. Our prices are both end user and wholesale prices. Every visitor realizes immediately that our business model offers valuable advantages for him, the art lover. Paintings in all price ranges motivate even those undecided ones to purchase and step by step to collect as well. Even the gallery owners and wholesale dealers – having direct contacts to some of “our” painters – are surprised and prefer not to miss our advantages. Our business model, our quality and our prices convinced them.

WORLDWIDE UNIQUE NAIVE FINE ART MUSEUM COLLECTION ON SALE

BUT THIS IS NOT AN AUCTION. AND NOT A SHOP.

Lovely landscapes - a Popular Motif in Naive Art

We have been presenting idealized world and life, lovely landscapes, charming and nostalgic interiors, romantic moods, sophisticated miniatures, countryside and village contents. Simply described, the world and the life as they once used to be, or the way we remember that they were or the way we imagine that they used to be. Though you will not miss realistic, fantastic and surrealistic elements. Last but not the least, everything is painted with extreme precision, filigree fine, painted with oil paints on canvas and even more intricate direct on the reverse side of thick glass panes. Many first time visitors of our Gallery said that the paintings are the result of honest art, created with “blood and sweat”. Such comments pleased many painters.

Further specialising

After appr. 15 successful first years we run out of Petit-Points (finest antique gobelins) and we also discontinued business with the Folk Art. We adapted the Gallery name and focused our marketing on three areas: The Croatian Naive Art, Haiti Paintings and (since 1979!) Chinese Naive Paintings, that are not very known yet. In addition we carry paintings from about 15 other countries. Our collection consists of hundreds original (one of a kind) paintings and thousands hand signed or unsigned fine art reproductions (prints) in various sizes. Thousands of professionally photographed large size transparencies (slides), lots of text materials, documentation, books, calendars, work and exhibition catalogs, information on shows etc. Therefor is our Gallery being widely considered as a unique culture institution in the entire world.

The result is our huge collection. By far not completely shown yet.

During the last two decades the Gallery founder and owner has been hard working on other own projects, dreams, visions and ambitions like to play jazz, to travel, to write books, poems, song texts, to swim daily, to profound the command of foreign languages, to play table tennis, just to mention the most engaging ones. All that required much of the time, that he previously dedicated to the Gallery. He decided to transfer the Gallery to younger person(s) and help them to transform the museum character and value of the Gallery into a real, functioning museum. There is so much that only himself could contribute to this interesting project, because he knew in person so many Naive Painters from various cultures. It would be regrettably wrong, not to transfer those treasures and experiences to the generations to come. Currently we are working hard to show you more and more and we appreciate your patience. Every now and then you will discover that we have added few more paintings on our homepage. Till soon…
